In search of the living!

La settimana scorsa ho mandato una lettera ai nonni per chiedergli di aiutarmi un po’ con la ricerca genealogica. In un certo senso ho l’impresione che avro’ molti piu’ problemi a ricercare il ramo Vigentini, perche’ la nonna si e’ mostrata molto disponibile ed ha gia’ individuate degli errori e inaccuratezze… nel frattempo, forse e’ perche’ ho la mente saldamente ancorata nell’analisi dei dati per il mio dottorato, forse perche’ sono bloccato nella ricerca, ho pensato di fare un censo dei Vigentini correntemente vivi. Se da qui non posso esplorare I documenti sui deceduti, credo che un conteggio dei vivi possa darmi delle informazioni piu’ dettagliate.

Ho incominciato dal sito Gens Italia (link), e subito mi sono trovato in una buona posizione! Come si pu’ vedere nella mappa del link, non ci sono molti Vigentini in Italia, e nessuno in America…

Il passo successivo e’ stato semplice: elenchi del telefono! Da qui sembra che sono ancora piu’ fortunato: anche se sono certo che questa e’ una lista parziale (per esempio mio papa’ non e’ nemmeno sulla lista) ho una sessantina di casi da cui partire.

Il secondo passo e’ stato fare una ricerca dettagliata degli indici su internet: anche qui molto pochi casi. Io sembro essere il Vigentini piu’ popolare su internet, secondo solo a ‘I Vigentini’, un parrucchiere di Milano il cui riferimento al nome e’ solo per il fatto che e’ in zona Vigentina…

ICQ, facebook, mySpace, Yahoo e Hotmail sono stati I successive oltre a infoSpace metasearch che mi ha dato dei risultati alquanto interessanti. Compilero’ una lista con delle statistiche in breve, pero’ sembra che come inizio per la ricerca dei vivi non sia per niente male!

Last week I sent a letter to the grandparents to ask them for some help in the research. Somehow I have the feeling that I’ll encounter many more problems in tracing the Vigentini branch of the family as grandma already spotted some errors and inaccuracies in my original starting tree… in the meantime, probably because I’ve got my mind set on the data analysis for my PhD, or maybe because I’m a bit stuck with the research, I thought to start my own census of the Vigentinis currently alive. From here I can’t really explore old documents about the dead, therefore I think that a head count of the living will give me plenty of details which will help.

I started from the site Gens Italia (link) and I was happy with the results: as you can see from the map below there are only a few Vigentini in italy and none in the US.

The next step was simple: telephone directories! From there it seems that I’m even more lucky: even though I’m aware of the fact that this is oly a partial list (my dad is not listed for example) there about sixty cases to investigate.

The second step was a detailed internet search from listings and directories. I seem to be the most popular of the Vigentini on the new, second only to the ‘ I Vigentini’ which is a barber in Milan. The only connection with the name, however is the area (Porta Vigentina) rather than the family name…

I used ICQ, facebook, mySpace, yahoo, e hotmail as well as infospace (metaserach engine) and all gave me quite interesting results. I will compile a list shortly with some stats, but it certainly is a very good start into the livings!
