The southamerican quest

Di solito non scrivo posts a meta' settimana, ma oggi sono molto eccitato perche’ le ricerche sudamericane stanno dando frutti! Per il momento ho trovato due rami di Vigentini: uno in Argentina ed uno in Brasile.
Sono riuscito a mettermi in contatto con Claudio e con Elisabete e nei prossimi giorni raccogliero’ maggiori informazioni su entrambi.

Da quanto ho capito per il momento, sembra che entrambi i rami provengano dal veneto e sia Claudio che Elisabete hanno su per giu’ la stessa eta’ di me e mio fratello. Questo ci porterebbe indietro di 4 generazioni, appena prima della prima guerramondiale. Al tempo il nord era diviso con gran parte del Veneto in mano austiaca e ho il presentimento che la famiglia si sia dispersa proprio a causa delle tre guerre d’indipendenza nella seconda meta’ dell’ottocento, con alcuni al di qua del confine del regno d’Italia, ed alcuni di la’ nel Veneto. Se cio’ e’ vero Pasquale (il padre di mio nonno), Afelio (il padre del nonno di Claudio) e Carlo (il padre di Philomena, nonna di Elisabete) potevano essere almeno cugini. Nei prossimi post separero’ le ricerche con il ramo Argentino e il ramo Brasiliano, ma di certo devo pensare ad una ricerca locale a Treviso in inverno!

Usually I don't do mid-week posts, but today I’m quite excited by the success of the research into the South American quest. At the moment I managed to trace two branches of the Vigentini family: one in Argentina and the other in Brazil. In particular I received a response from Claudio and Elisabete and I hope to get more info in the next few days.

From what I can gather in their email, it seems that both branches originated from Veneto. Both Claudio and Elisabete are, more or less, as old as me ad my brother. If we go back four generations, this brings us in a turbulent time of Italian history in the north, just before the world war I. At the time the north of Italy was split with most of the Veneto occupied by the Austrian; I have the feeling that the three wars of independence of the second half of the ‘800 were the cause of the dispersion of the family members with some in the Regno d’Italia and others over the border in the Austrian empire. If this is tru it is possible that Pasquale (my grandpa’s father), Afelio (Claudio’s g.granather) and Carlo(Philomena’s father, who is Elisabete’s grandma) could have been cousins if not even brothers. In the next few posts I will separate the stories of the argentinian and brazilian branched, however what is certain is that I might have to start to plan a visit in Treviso over the winter!
