Uncovering the story of Rose

Ma chi era Rose? Dal documento ufficiale del US Census 1920[1] sappiamo che Rose abitava nel Distretto 26, (San Francisco Assembly District 26) a San Francisco in California ed era nata forse nel 1878 in Italia. Era capo del nucleo familiare, aveva 42 anni ed era vedova. Non sapeva ne leggere ne scrivere, pero’ parlava inglese, ma non era naturalizzata.

Dal documento ufficiale sembra che sia emigrata in America nel 1902. Inoltre si vede che condivideva l’abitazione con tale Carlo Trentarossi di anni 33, educato, sposato ed emigrato nel 1911.
Dopo un'assidua ricerca non sono ancora riuscito a svelare molto: non c'e' traccia della migrazione di Rosa dall'Italia benche' sono a conoscenza della data approssimativa del suo viaggio. Non c'e' traccia di Rosa in territorio Americano nel 1910. Non c'e' traccia di Rosa nel Census del 1930. Tutto cio' mi pone na serie di domande che forse non avranno mai risposta...
Che fine ha fatto suo marito? Era morto prima o dopo la migrazione? Quando e' arrivata a San Francisco? Ha assistito al tragico terremoto del 1906?

Due fatti del Census del 1920 sono piuttosto strani: chi era Carlo? Perche’ vivevano insieme?

Dai record di Carlo sembra che dopo il 1920 la sua vita sia proseguita in modo 'normale', se cosi' si puo' dire, inseguendo quel 'American Dream' che l'aveva spinto a trasferirsi in America ll'inizio del secolo. Dai documenti risulta che si sposto’ a Sonoma dove vive per il resto della sua vita, sposato con Cathryine Ruth. Fu chiamato alle armi nel 1942 e quindi mori’ nel 1971, pochi mesi dopo la moglie mori'. Per il momento non sono riuscito a rintracciare i loro figli.

Who was Rose? From the US Census 1920[1] we know that Rose lived in the San Francisco CA, Assembly District number 26, and she was born possibly in 1878 in Italy. She figures as head of the family group, she was 42 at the time and she was widow. She didn’t know how to read and write, but she could speak English even though she was not naturalised.

From the document it seems that she migrated in the US in 1902. furthermore she was sharing lodging with Carlo Trentarossi, 33 years old, educated, married and emigrated in 1911.

After a thorough research I haven’t been able yet to unveil much more: I couldn’t find any traces of her migration from Italy even though we have an approximate date. There is no trace of Rosa in the US in the 1910 census, nor in the 1930 census. All these points to a lot of questions which maybe will not get answers…

What happened to her husband? Was he dead before migrating? When did she arrive in San Francisco? Was she there during the tragic 1906 earthquake?

Two facts from the 1920 census are somehow strange: who was this Carlo? Why did they share accommodation?

From the records it seems that Carlo after 1920 had a normal life, chasing the American dream which probably motivated him to move in the first place at the start of the century. From the document it seems that he moved in the district of Sonoma, where he lived for the rest of his life, married with Cathryne Ruth. He was called to arms in 1942 and died in 1971. after only a few months his wife also died. I couldn’t trace any of their children yet.
